Charo Santos Remembers Heartfelt Moment with Jim Paredes in the '90s
Veteran actress and media executive, Charo Santos, took to Instagram to share a deeply personal story about a time when she was called "heartless" by Jim Paredes of APO Hiking Society in the mid-'90s. In a recent video, Charo reflected on this unexpected remark that still lingers in her memory.

“It was in 1995, a lot of you weren't born yet, but there was a program called Tatak Pilipino, and it was hosted by Jim Paredes and Gel Santos-Relos,” Charo recalled, giving her followers a peek into the behind-the-scenes dynamics of the showbiz industry. She explained that the program had a great start but suffered a decline in ratings after a year, leading to the loss of advertisers and, ultimately, the cancellation of the show.
Charo’s task was to deliver the unfortunate news to Jim and Gel. She recalled, "I met with Jim and Gel and sinabi ko yung reasons behind it, tinanggap naman nila." Despite the understanding from both hosts, Charo was caught off guard by a comment Jim made during a team-building event with APO Hiking Society shortly after.
"I thought everything went well until one day, we were having a team building naman with APO Hiking Society when Jim suddenly blurted out, 'You know, Charo, you're so heartless,'" Charo shared. Confused and stunned, she asked him why he would say such a thing.
“Nabigla ako, parang, 'Why are you saying that? Anong nagawa ko?' Sabi niya, 'You couldn't even wait. I mean, when you cancelled Tatak Pilipino, it was my birthday.' Oh my God, natunaw ako sa hiya, and I said sorry so many times,” she admitted. The unexpected comment left a profound impact on Charo, and she reflected on the emotional consequences of corporate decisions.
"I realized that talents are not just a cog in the showbiz machine; they're persons who get hurt," she said. From that moment forward, Charo made a commitment to honor the personal lives of the talents she worked with. "I took note of all the birthdays of all our talents and from then on, we never cancelled a program on any of their birthdays," she added, showing how this experience shaped her approach to leadership.
