Carmi Martin Recalls Confronting Habitually Late Young Star: “She’s a Woman, Always Late!”

Veteran actress Carmi Martin shares a humorous yet honest story about calling out a young female co-star for consistently being late during a 2008 TV series taping.

Known
for her professionalism and candidness, Carmi Martin recently recalled confronting a young female co-star who was repeatedly late during the filming of the 2008 TV series Lastikman.

Carmi, who stars as Naty—a widow and grandmother taking care of her grandchild Marco played by Aki Blanco—in the upcoming movie Isang Komedya Sa Langit, shared a memorable anecdote.

When they cast me, producer and screenwriter Rossanna Hwang actually looked for me through our barangay chairman in Magallanes, Makati,” Carmi explained. Jaime Fabregas, her co-star and neighbor, was found the same way.

With 45 years in showbiz, Carmi was asked by PEP.ph about her experiences with younger artists.

Laughing, she said, “Meron lang naman akong inaway. Hahaha.”

Asked who, she replied, “Hindi ko na maalala. Babae. Consistent siyang late!”

She jokingly added, “One time, may nagpainom sa akin ng kape, pampapayat daw. E, ang effect, pampainit pala ng ulo.”

This incident occurred during Lastikman, the ABS-CBN adaptation led by Vhong Navarro, where she was part of the supporting cast.

When she arrived, the heat was on her because she was consistently late and didn’t apologize. But when it was take time, parang wala namang away,” Carmi said.

The lateness was measured in hours, not minutes.

How did Carmi confront her co-star?
I said, ‘Alam mo, parati kang late. Hindi mo ba alam na nag-iintay kami sa iyo?!’ She didn’t reply.

I don’t know, but supposedly, it should’ve been the road manager’s job to inform us of conflicts or delays. We waited a long time and weren’t told.”

The female co-star never repeated her tardiness.

People with that kind of attitude don’t last long in showbiz,” Carmi reflected.

For her part, Carmi always texts her co-actors when she’s running late, saying, “Naku pasensiya na!”

Meanwhile, Aki Blanco, who plays her grandchild in Isang Komedya Sa Langit, never showed up late. “Everyone came prepared because Madam Rossanna said it was just a few shooting days, so you couldn’t show up clueless.”

Other cast members include EA Guzman, Gene Padilla, and John Medina.

Directed by Roi Paolo Calilong and produced by Kapitana Entertainment Media, Isang Komedya Sa Langit will be showing in cinemas nationwide on May 28, 2025.
