Bimby Aquino Yap, the youngest son of Kris Aquino, recently shared his decision to put his showbiz career on hold in order to focus on his education and take care of his mother, who is battling multiple autoimmune diseases.
In an interview with Ogie Diaz, which was featured in the latter's YouTube vlog, Bimby explained that he has chosen to prioritize his studies and his mom’s health. He acknowledged that despite the support from his fans to enter the entertainment industry, his current focus is on his education. He mentioned that he plans to attend college next year and is aiming to pursue a degree in Legal Management to eventually become a lawyer.
When asked about his future in showbiz, Bimby quickly replied, “School muna, taking care of mama, next year college na ako, tito Ogie, I’m old na, ha, ha, ha, ha.” His response reflects his commitment to his academic and family responsibilities before venturing into the entertainment world.
Regarding his father, San Juan City councilor James Yap Sr., Bimby explained that while his father posted a birthday message for him, he did not directly comment on it, as he doesn't actively use Facebook. He also clarified that his fan page, which many people believe to be his own, has created some confusion among his supporters, but he expressed gratitude for the love.
Bimby also discussed the possibility of entering politics, considering his family’s deep involvement in public service. His maternal grandmother, former President Corazon Aquino, and his late grandfather, Senator Ninoy Aquino, as well as his uncle, former President Benigno Aquino Jr., have had significant roles in the political arena. When asked about his thoughts on politics, Bimby acknowledged that it is always an option but added that it is a difficult yet impactful job. He said, “Siyempre it’s not an easy job, but it’s a job that can help so many people.”
He also reflected on the dynamics of politics, saying, “There’s no permanent friend in politics, and there the wind blows you have to be careful talaga.” Despite these challenges, Bimby recognized the potential for public service to make a difference in people’s lives.
Lastly, Bimby shared that he is very selective when it comes to relationships, joking that his mother Kris Aquino has to approve any potential girlfriend. He humorously referenced the saying, "Once you marry a guy, you marry his father as well," indicating his awareness of the familial importance in relationships.
