Bimby Aquino Yap, Kris Aquino’s youngest son, recently shared how he’s been managing his emotions amid his mother's long-term health struggles. Kris Aquino, known for her role as a prominent media personality in the Philippines, has been battling multiple autoimmune diseases since 2018, a condition that has deeply impacted her life. In a heartfelt interview on Ogie Diaz’s vlog, Bimby spoke openly about the mental and emotional journey he has had to endure alongside his mother’s fight for survival.

In 2018, when Kris was first diagnosed, Bimby admitted it took him years to fully accept her condition. He mentioned, “When we learned about mom’s illness [in] 2018, it took me a few years to really accept, like two years to accept, but after acceptance, you learn to surrender lang,” the 17-year-old shared. Despite the emotional turmoil, Bimby expressed how important it was to come to terms with the situation, even though it remains a challenge.

Though he admitted that there are moments when his mother’s weakness leaves him feeling shaken, Bimby knows there is little he can do to ease her suffering. "Hindi ako Diyos, I can only do so much to alleviate her, to help her," he said. “Pero at the end of the day, I can't fully take it away 'di ba? Kasi tao lang ako, tao lang si mama,” he continued. "All I can do is love her, support her, [and] take care of her."

Bimby, however, finds comfort in his mother's strength and determination. He described Kris as a "fighter," acknowledging the support from his family. "Fighter kasi si mama e, fighter talaga, and all my titas really take the time to talk to me na, ‘Bimb, your mom’s a fighter, she’s got this,’" he said, reinforcing the belief that his mother can overcome anything. Bimby shared that even when he feels immense sympathy for his mother, he reminds himself of her resilience. “There are those moments na parang naaawa ka nang sobra kay mama, but I know that kaya ‘to ni mama. Wala lang ‘to kay mama,” he added, reflecting on her ability to face adversity.

Despite the toll her condition has taken on her, Kris continually reassures Bimby and his older brother, Josh, of her determination. "Ang sinasabi ni mama, ‘I will fight for you and your brother, kasi you two are my world; It might look like I’m getting weaker and weaker but no Bimb, I will always fight for you and your kuya,’” Bimby recalled his mother telling him.

Apart from offering emotional and mental support, Bimby makes sure to care for his mother in practical ways. He cooks for her daily and cherishes the small moments with her. “’Yung kapag laughing si mama; That’s the best thing that I hear every day, ‘yung laugh ni mama,” he said with a fond smile. "The feeling I have when I’m with my mom is indescribable e. I really can’t explain how I love my mom; above words na ‘yan e.”

On his 17th birthday, Bimby wrote a deeply moving letter to Kris, which he shared publicly. Reflecting on their time together, he wrote, "I wrote in the letter na, 'Mom, I know times are tough pero I'm so thankful na I had 17 years with the person I love the most. 'Di ba nga, other people, they only get to spend 10 years, five years, with the person they love the most. Eh, swerteng swerte na ako na 17 years with my world, my universe, 'di ba?” Bimby’s words revealed the deep bond he shares with his mother, acknowledging the precious time they have spent together. He concluded with gratitude, saying, "Whatever time God gives me and mama, blessing na ‘yun.”

Kris Aquino, who has been fighting five life-threatening autoimmune diseases, continues her treatment at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. Since June 2022, she has been undergoing various treatments, including for Churg Strauss syndrome, a condition that has led to cardiomyopathy—an illness that affects the heart’s ability to pump blood. Despite her ongoing struggle, Kris remains optimistic about her future. In February, she shared plans to return to the Philippines before Christmas, depending on the results of upcoming tests. "May mga natamaan na blood vessels kaya kailangan ko pa magpalakas," she explained. "Hopefully sa last quarter ng taon bago mag-pasko, I'll be back in the Philippines. It just really depends sa pagdadaanan kong tests. Isa doon yung MRI with contrast dye," Kris shared, expressing hope for recovery.
