Pia Wurtzbach, despite establishing herself firmly within the fashion world, maintains that she is not someone who seeks to rest on past achievements or to engage in rivalry with others.
In a conversation with Preview magazine, the 2015 Miss Universe winner expressed that her true competition is with herself. She explained that her journey as a style influencer unfolds without any preconceived “battle plan.”
“I didn’t want this to be a competition. No, I didn’t want it to be… Like, come on, I just came from a competition a couple of years ago. I don’t want to be in another one,” she shared in the feature story.
Wurtzbach conveyed that whenever she approaches any fashion endeavor, she embraces the mindset of a newcomer, aware that not everyone still identifies her as a former beauty queen.
“[I was going to] have to introduce myself as who I was [at that moment]. Who am I outside of pageants? What am I doing here? How do I want to position myself? How do I want them to remember me?” she reflected.
Additionally, during the interview, Wurtzbach revealed her decision to adopt her husband’s last name, Jauncey, viewing it as a way to solidify their family’s foundation.
“One day when we have kids, I would want them to see that we share the same last name as their dad. It’s a bit of a traditional move for Jeremy, but it doesn’t really bother me,” she explained.
Since 2023, Wurtzbach has made a significant impact as a fashion influencer, appearing on various lists highlighting emerging figures to watch, especially after her participation in prestigious Fashion Weeks in Paris and Milan.
In the earlier phases of her Fashion Week involvement, her name was frequently linked with Heart Evangelista, who had already made a mark in the fashion scene before Wurtzbach’s arrival. The media often reported a quiet tension between the two, sparked by claims of rivalry during several Fashion Week appearances. This tension was reportedly intensified when Evangelista’s glam team shifted their loyalty to Wurtzbach, which some perceived as a breach of Evangelista’s trust and friendship.
However, Evangelista addressed these speculations in October 2024, stating she “never had a problem” with Wurtzbach.
“Woman to woman, I never had a problem with Pia [Wurtzbach]. I was one of those who cheered for her in the past. And I’d like to think that it was the same for her. She was so sweet enough to post the hashtag ‘Heart made do it.’ And at the time, I was so touched,” Evangelista said. “But it’s the people she chose to surround herself with for specific reasons that make this whole thing problematic.”
Wurtzbach, meanwhile, has chosen not to publicly respond to Evangelista’s comments since then.
