Filipino-Austrian JJ wins Eurovision 2025

At just 24 years old, JJ delivered a compelling performance of his original piece, "Wasted Love," which resonated strongly with both the professional juries and the global audience.

Filipino-Austrian artist Johannes Pietsch, popularly known as JJ, emerged as the winner of the 69th Eurovision Song Contest held in 2025.

The grand finale of this renowned international music competition took place on May 17, 2025, in Basel, Switzerland, featuring 26 participating countries.

At just 24 years old, JJ delivered a compelling performance of his original piece, "Wasted Love," which resonated strongly with both the professional juries and the global audience.

He amassed a total of 436 points - 258 awarded by the juries and 178 from public televoting - clinching Austria’s third triumph in Eurovision history.

JJ narrowly surpassed Israel, which garnered 357 points, and Estonia, finishing closely behind with 356 points.

This win adds to Austria’s previous successes, following the victories of Udo Jürgens in 1966 and Conchita Wurst in 2014.

Notably, JJ is the second Filipino-origin artist to represent Austria at Eurovision, the first being Vincent Bueno who competed in 2021.

On social media, JJ shared a video holding his Eurovision trophy with a heartfelt caption that contrasted the theme of his winning song.

He stated, “Love is never wasted,” sending a message of hope and positivity despite the song’s title.

In his own words, JJ said: "Hello, everybody, we did it! Guys, love is never wasted. There is so much love that can be spread around in any field."



Johannes Pietsch, known professionally as JJ, is an Filipino-Austrian singer-songwriter and countertenor who gained international recognition by winning the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. Born on April 29, 2001, in Vienna to an Austrian IT specialist and a Filipino cook, he spent his early years in Dubai before returning to Austria in 2016. JJ's musical journey began with participation in talent shows such as The Voice UK in 2020 and Austria's Starmania in 2021. He further honed his craft at the Vienna State Opera's opera school and the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna. In 2025, he represented Austria at Eurovision with his self-penned song "Wasted Love," co-written with Teodora Špirić and Thomas Thurner, and secured victory with a total of 436 points.

JJ's musical style blends elements of pop and opera, characterized by his exceptional vocal range that spans from contralto to soprano. He is fluent in German, English, French, and Tagalog, and openly identifies as queer. Following his Eurovision success, JJ has continued to perform at prestigious venues, including the Vienna State Opera, and remains an influential figure in both classical and contemporary music scenes.
