Bela Padilla opens up about the real reason behind her weight loss

She said that it wasn’t driven by a desire to achieve a bikini-ready figure for summer nor due to preparing for a film role requiring a leaner body.

Bela Padilla noticeably slimmed down when she appeared at the Ogawa massage chair event held in Taguig City earlier this month.

When Philstar.com inquired about the reason behind her weight loss, the actress clarified that it wasn’t driven by a desire to achieve a bikini-ready figure for summer nor due to preparing for a film role requiring a leaner body.

Instead, Bela explained that her weight changes stem from Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), a health condition that causes her to suffer from acne, weight fluctuations, and fatigue.

Previously, in an exclusive interview with Philstar.com last year, Bela openly discussed living with PCOS.

“I have it constantly so I make sure that when I make decisions, what I put on my skin, what I eat, it always has to be very mindful,” she shared.

In a 2023 interview with Boy Abunda, Bela also revealed that she was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism - a condition defined by the Cleveland Clinic as “when your thyroid gland doesn’t produce or release enough hormone into your bloodstream.”

“I had PCOS since I was 19. But in my last trip here in the Philippines, I just found out I also have Hypothyroidism. I was wondering because I work out every day. Sobrang linis ko na kumain. I found out I have Hypothyroidism… That causes a lot of insecurities especially when you’re growing up in front of a camera. That was really hard. It took a lot. I had to change my diet again, change my skincare, because of that I’m very sensitive,” she confessed.

Being mindful about the types of makeup she applies, Bela launched her own eponymous makeup line last year, specifically formulated to be safe and gentle for PCOS warriors like herself.

In her recent interview with Philstar.com during the Ogawa event, Bela said that despite living with PCOS and facing other challenges, she continues to maintain a busy schedule with regular hosting duties on “It’s Showtime,” and plans to star in two upcoming films.

Moreover, she has embraced entrepreneurship wholeheartedly. Bela shared that her beauty brand is thriving and has expanded its product range beyond its initial launch items - lip balm and cheek tint - to offer a broader lineup.

Bela Padilla, born Krista Elyse Hidalgo Sullivan on May 3, 1991, in Makati City, Philippines, is a Filipino-British actress, screenwriter, director, and producer. She is the niece of actors Robin Padilla and Rommel Padilla, and the cousin of Daniel and Kylie Padilla. Padilla began her acting career in 2007 and has since become known for her roles in television dramas on GMA-7 and ABS-CBN, as well as critically acclaimed films such as 100 Tula Para Kay Stella (2017), Meet Me in St. Gallen (2018), and On Vodka, Beers, and Regrets (2020). She also made her directorial debut in 2022 with the film 366, which she also wrote and starred in.

In 2021, Padilla relocated to London and is currently in a relationship with her Swiss boyfriend, Norman Bay. She continues to develop her skills in writing and directing for future projects. Padilla is also a practicing Jehovah's Witness.
