Alden Richards Reveals He Hit ‘Rock Bottom’ in 2024, Speaks Candidly About Love Life Pressures

Alden Richards opens up about hitting "rock bottom" in 2024 and shares his journey overcoming the intense pressures of his love life and career.



“If there’s a place lower than rock bottom, I was there.”

This is the candid admission of Kapuso heartthrob Alden Richards during an interview with GMA News, where he opened up for the first time about the darkest chapter in his life last year.

According to Alden, very few people knew the intense struggles he endured.

Currently hosting the upcoming celebrity dance competition Stars on the Floor, Alden shared that despite his bright presence on camera, 2024 was far from easy.

“I think last year was my lowest year. Rock bottom. It took me six months to get over that,” he said.

While not clinically diagnosed, Alden courageously disclosed that he battled severe depression.

“That was depression at its finest. That was depression. The amazing thing is, it’s not always obvious,” Alden admitted.

He did not delve into the specific reasons but expressed how his tendency to be overly generous with others led to profound emptiness.

“I put everyone before myself first,” Alden began.

“But last year, I think that was my breaking point because sometimes we always go out of our way to help other people. Help, help, help. Give, give, give.”

“What happened was, when I looked into my own bucket, there was nothing left. And then that broke me into a million pieces,” he shared.

From this experience, Alden learned the importance of prioritizing self-love—now engaging in running, cycling, and doing things he truly enjoys.

When asked about his love life, Alden stressed that he does not want his identity to revolve solely around relationships.

“I don’t understand… I don’t get why our mindset is always that a person’s happiness is based on their love life,” he said.

“This is my story and how I want it to be told, not based on other people’s assumptions. I’m so done with that.”

He added, “I’ve been here long enough. I know that I’ve done so much in the industry and I would like to do more in the industry right now.”
