Robert Downey Jr. has opened up about the simple yet powerful rule that has helped him and his wife, Susan Downey, maintain a strong marriage for nearly two decades.

The actor, 59, shared that he and Susan follow a "two-week rule," which has become a cornerstone of their relationship.

"We have a two-week rule, which is, I'm not away for more than two weeks," Downey Jr. said in an interview with People.

He explained that no matter where work or life takes them, they make it a priority to reunite within that timeframe.

"I don't care if it's the Arctic Circle, we split the difference — I'll go home and see her, or she'll come out and see me," he added.

Downey Jr. and Susan met in 2003 on the set of Gothika, where Susan was a producer and he was starring in the film.

They married two years later, in 2005, and have since built both a family and a production company together, Team Downey.

Beyond the "two-week rule," Downey Jr. also attributes the strength of their marriage to Susan’s qualities as a partner.

"There's just something about her," he said. "She's confident and fun and has a great sense of humor."

The actor emphasized that their relationship is based on mutual respect, communication, and a shared commitment to making each other feel valued, even amid busy professional lives.

Over the years, Robert Downey Jr. has often credited Susan with playing a crucial role in his personal transformation and sustained career comeback.

The two have consistently prioritized their bond, whether by visiting each other on set, traveling together, or simply making sure they remain connected despite the demands of Hollywood life.

Their nearly 20-year marriage stands as a testament to the power of intentional commitment and shared effort.
