On May 22, 2025, Britney Spears, 43, reportedly caused alarm during a flight from Cabo San Lucas to Los Angeles when she consumed alcohol and lit a cigarette mid-flight. While private flights often offer more relaxed environments, smoking on board still breaches aviation regulations, and the flight crew swiftly reacted by asking Spears to put it out.

Though she complied, the action prompted the crew to alert ground authorities, who were waiting when the plane landed at Los Angeles International Airport. Spears was not detained but was officially warned regarding her actions on the flight.
Shortly after the incident, Spears took to Instagram to explain her version of events. In a post she wrote:
"My friend put it in my mouth and lit it up for me so I was like OH SO THIS IS A PLANE WHERE YOU CAN SMOKE!!!"
She continued:
"I do so apologize to anyone I offended", adding that calling the authorities "was kinda much."
The incident sparked public conversation about Spears’ recent behavior, with some recalling earlier events in her personal life. In 2020, Spears accidentally caused a fire in her home gym, which added to public concerns regarding her safety and decision-making.
Despite this, many fans expressed their continued support for the singer, highlighting her efforts toward reclaiming control over her life following the end of her 13-year conservatorship in 2021.
