A touching story of a veteran who showed respect during a funeral procession, reminding us of the power of kindness and honor. Learn how this act moved an entire family and sparked gratitude.
Yesterday, during my father’s funeral procession, led by the United States Marine Corps, my family noticed something deeply touching. As we passed by, we saw a man pulled over on the side of the road. His hat was in his hand, and his hand was placed over his heart, honoring my father and our family as we passed.
This respectful gesture moved my family and the entire procession in ways words can’t fully express. Along the route, we passed many other cars, but most drivers simply went about their day, unaware or uninterested in the significance of the moment.
However, this man stood out. His thoughtful act of honor was something we will never forget. His license plate was visible in the photo, so my daughter, wanting to express our gratitude, did some digging to find him.
And we found him.
His name is Ernest Boerlin, and he is a fellow veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. When I reached out to thank him privately for his gesture, he responded with heartfelt words:
“It was an honor to show my respect for a fellow serviceman and their family. Please accept my prayers and condolences to you and your family for your loss. Fair winds and following seas. God bless.”
Thank you, Ernest. Your kindness and respect touched our hearts and the hearts of our family and friends. We are forever grateful. May God bless you and your loved ones as well.
Let’s all take a moment to thank Ernest for his service and show him some love. His act of kindness has shown us the true meaning of honor and respect.
