Claire sighed.
"Ma'am, I have other passengers waiting."
Daniel watched the woman struggle to move the suitcase.
Her hands were trembling.
Nobody helped.
The passengers behind Daniel shifted impatiently.
The woman eventually dragged the suitcase away.
Daniel looked at Claire.
She was already calling the next passenger.
A young man stepped forward.
"Student fare," Claire said.
"Yes."
"Verification?"
He showed her his student ID.
She studied it.
"This is expired."
"No, it isn't. That's the expiration date of the card. I'm still enrolled."
"The system says you're not eligible."
"I have my enrollment confirmation."
Claire didn't even look at it.
"You'll need to pay the difference."
"How much?"
"Four hundred and eighty-two dollars."
The young man's face went pale.
"What?"
"You heard me."
