Part 2 — The Truth Buried for Years

Ryan stared at his mother.

“What does it mean?” he asked.

The woman couldn’t speak.

Tears suddenly filled her eyes.

Years of secrets came crashing back.

Slowly, she knelt in front of the boy.

“Where…” she whispered, “where did you get that necklace?”

The boy looked confused.

“My dad gave it to me before he died.”

Silence.

Then he pulled something else from his pocket.

An old folded photograph.

Half of it was ripped away.

Ryan’s mother took it with shaking hands.

And froze.

Because she had the other half.

For years.

Hidden inside a box in her closet.

Her breathing stopped.

She pulled out her wallet and opened a hidden compartment.

Inside was the missing half.

She pressed them together.

The picture became whole.

Two newborn babies.

Twins.

Ryan stepped backward.

“No…”

The lonely boy looked at her with tears in his eyes.

“You mean…”

The woman fell to her knees.

Twenty years ago, doctors had told her one baby died during a hospital emergency.

But that was a lie.

Her lips trembled.

She looked at both boys and whispered:

“They didn’t die…”

“They took you from me.”
